Queen City Ethiopian Harrar
The Harrar region of Ethiopia is very unique; separated from the rest of Ethiopia by the Great Rift Valley, this area is extremely dry for most of the year, and thus all of the coffee from the region is processed in the Full-Natural, sundried style. This style of process imparts more of the flavor from the dried coffee cherry and yields a very complex coffee. The growing region is on the mountain slopes between the towns of Hirna, Masala, and Gololocha in the Ahmar Mountain Range in Eastern Ethiopia at an altitude of 1,200-2,100 meters.
It used to be that the best coffee coming out of Ethiopia was from the famous "Horse" brand. Mr. Ogsadey, the founder of the brand passed away in 2006 and since then there has been an overall decline in the quality of the Harrars. Luckily, for the last several years we have had the privilege of working with Ogsadey’s nephew, Abdirashid Abdullahi. Royal Coffee and Mr. Abdullahi have worked together to create this new mark: Queen City. What set’s this coffee apart from other Harrars is that it is intensively hand sorted, and only comes from a very few select growers. This Harrar is as close to defect-free as is possible with such a rustic coffee.
